Four Carnegie Mellon Runners Earn All-Academic Honor from USTFCCCA

Four members of the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team were named to the All-Academic team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Seniors Josh Antonson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), Eamon Cullinane (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) and George Degen (Madison, Wis./West), along with junior Marc-Daniel Julien(Skokie, Ill./Niles West) received the honor for the 2014 competition year. Degen and Julien are repeat honorees from a year ago with Degen earning the honor for the third time.

The Tartans won the Mideast Regional as a team with Degen finishing eighth, Julien 23rd, Antonson 27th and Cullinane 52nd.

Degen carries a 3.86 cumulative GPA in chemical engineering while Julien holds a 3.83 GPA in electrical and computer engineering. Cullinane is a chemical engineering major with a 3.68 GPA while Antonson has a 3.60 GPA in electrical and computer engineering.

The team earned honors sporting a 3.40 cumulative average and has been honored since the USTFCCCA began the All-Academic program.

The USTFCCCA All-Academic award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average and must have finished among the top 25 percent of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.
