Spartan Men Placed Fourth at All-Ohio Championship

The Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team placed fourth of 21 Division III teams competing at the 2014 All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship on a windy Friday afternoon at Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

John Carroll University won the team title with 95 points. No. 34 nationally ranked University of Mount Union was a close second at 99. Oberlin College (103) finished just ahead of the Spartans (104), while Ohio Wesleyan University rounded out the top five at 119.

Junior captain Tony Spalding (South Bend, Ind./Marian) was the first from CWRU to complete the 8k course with a ninth-place time of 26:07.06. Freshman Sam Merriman (Middlesex, Vt./U-32) was next to cross the line in 13th place and a mark of 26:12.46.

Junior Timothy Travitz (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) was 24th in 26:26.65, junior Ben Davis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) was 27th in 26:33.05, and sophomore Lou Takahashi (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) rounded out the team scoring in 31st (26:40.94).
