Emory Finishes Third At UAA Championship

The 35th- ranked Emory men's cross country team came through with a strong effort at the 31st Annual University Athletic Association Championships Saturday afternoon, registering a third-place finish. The event was held at the Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, New Jersey.

The Eagles finished the meet with 101 points.  Defending its conference crown was No. 9 Washington University with 40 points, with No 12 Carnegie Mellon coming in second with 79 points. No. 29 New York University was fourth (107 pts.) while No. 23 Chicago rounded out the top five (115 pts.).

Emory senior Shane Sullivan raced to First Team All-UAA honors after crossing the finish line in the No. 3 position out of 77 finishers, clocking a season-best 8k time of 26:09.7. It represented the fifth time in as many outings this year that Sullivan had scored for the Eagles, and the second straight competition that he ranked as the squad's runner.

Senior Max Brown was Emory's second finisher, posting a time of 26:48.3 that represented his second-best effort of the season and that placed him 18thoverall.  Junior Bennett Shaw was one spot behind Brown, registering a 26:48.7. Sophomore Luis Torres (27:16, 32nd place) and freshman Matt Dillon (27:17, 35th place) closed out the team's scorers.

Emory finish at the league championships represented the first time since 2009 that it had finished better than fifth.
