From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior Joe Jaster was named the M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) after winning the 2022 UAA Championship on Saturday.

Jaster won the men's 8K race at the Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton, Georgia with a time of 24:44.5, 4.6 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, to place first out of the 74 competitors. His time was the fastest 8K time of his career by 34.1 seconds.

Jaster became just the second runner in program history to win the UAA individual title, joining former Spartan Aaron Johnston-Peck in 2004 and earned all-UAA honors for cross country for the first time in his career.

This was the first time in program history that a male CWRU athlete has been named the M-F National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season. It also marked the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of Jaster's career.

Case Western Reserve, ranked 20th in Division III entering the meet, placed third out of eight teams, the team's highest conference finish since 2007.
