Rochester Ends Fourth At NCAA Niagara Regional, Scott Sikorski Finishes as Runner-up

Led by a runner-up finish from senior Scott Sikorski and three total All-Region performers, the University of Rochester men's cross country placed fourth among 24 teams at the NCAA Division III Niagara Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at Genesee Valley Park.
 
Sikorski was second in a field of 172 runners in the event, earning All-Region accolades and an automatic berth into next weeks NCAA Division III Championships as an individual qualifier. His time was 25:07.2 for the 8-kilometer course.
 
Rochester as a team placed fourth in the field with a team score of 149 points. Geneseo took the team title with five runners in the top-15, scoring 41 points. Brockport was runner-up with 77 points, and UR's UAA rival NYU was third with 114 points.
 
UR's second finisher was junior Zach Spergel who finished in 28th place with a run of 26:29.0. Griffin Weiner was 35th in the field in 26:38.3, joining Spergel and Sikorski as All-Region performers.
 
The Yellowjackets saw their fourth and fifth runners, Nate Brunacini and Daniel Ford separated by just four seconds and two places, finishing 41st and 43rd, respectively. Brunacini was clocked in with a time of 26:44.4, while Ford earned a time of 26:48.2.
 
Rochester's displacers also finished in the top-70 runners in the field. Nick Gaitainis was 59th in 27:13.4, with Vishal Yalamanchili rounding out the Yellowjacket lineup with a 27:23.5 run.
 
Sikorski will represent Rochester for the second straight year at the NCAA Championships next Saturday in Lansing, Michigan.
