WashU Places Fifth at NCAA Midwest Regional

The Washington University in St. Louis cross country teams competed well in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday at the Northwestern Medicine Cross Country Course. 

The top finisher for the Bears was Matthew Hornung (25:24.2), who boasted his third top-15 finish of the season, as he placed 11th overall. 
 
Senior Jeff Candell also registered a top-20 finish (25:30.6) and was 18th, setting his fifth consecutive top-20 finish on the year. 
 
Also tallying All-Region honors for WashU was senior Matt Kusask, who finished in 26th place and ran an overall time of 25:37.9.
 
Thomas Penney was 33rd and checked in with a mark of 25:54.3, while Alexander Gadin was just seconds behind Penney as he took the final All-Region slot in 35th place with a mark of 25:58:6. 
 
Additionally, Fernando Ribeiro-Duraes was 44th (26:11.3) and Alexander Evans finished in 50th (26:17.3).
