Two Maroons Receive NFCA All-Region Accolades

University of Chicago softball players Maddie McManusand Jordan Poole were named Third Team All-Great Lakes Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Sunday. 

McManus, a senior third baseman, led the Maroons with a .375 batting average and 21 RBI this season. She also tallied 10 doubles, one triple, one home run and three stolen bases. McManus drew nine walks compared to only five strikeouts in 112 at-bats. On April 30, the senior was named Second Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA).

Poole was picked All-Region after a successful year both as a pitcher and a hitter. The sophomore posted a 15-5 record with a 1.91 ERA, four shutouts and two saves. She struck out 119 batters in 128-1/3 innings pitched. At the plate, Poole ranked second on the team in batting average (.348) while adding seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 14 RBI.

The Maroons finished the year with a 25-10 record and qualified for the NCAA Division III Softball Championship for the fifth time since 2006.
