Kahala Bonsignore, Sage Scheiwiller of NYU Honored by ECAC

Kahala Bonsignore and Sage Scheiwiller of the New York University softball team each earned weekly honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Tuesday, May 5. Bonsignore was named Metro Player of the Week, while Scheiwiller earned Metro Rookie of the Week honors.

The pair helped lead the Violets to a 4-2 record during the final week of their inaugural varsity season.

Bonsignore led NYU offensively, as she has done all season. The junior shortstop finished the week with a .583 (14-for-24) batting average. In addition, she tallied 15 RBIs, 12 runs scored, five doubles, a home run, and 22 total bases..

Scheiwiller was honored for her performance as a pitcher. The rookie started three games in the circle and posted a 2-1 record, highlighted by a season-ending no-hitter against Yeshiva University on Friday afternoon. A native of Spokane, WA, Scheiwiller struck out 14 en route to her sixth win of the season.

Bonsignore led the Violets with a .491 batting average. She also led in RBIs (36), doubles (17), slugging percentage (.693), and on-base percentage (.512).

On the mound, Scheilwiller tied for the team lead with six wins, and was #1 in strikeouts (63) and batting average against (.291). No slouch at the plate, Scheiwiller batted .471 and tied for the team lead in hits (56) with Bonsignore.   

This was the first career ECAC weekly honor for both Bonsignore and Scheiwiller.

NYU softball finished its first-ever varsity season with a 12-24 record.
