Emory Pounds Out Two Wins At UAA Championship

The Emory softball team broke out the bats in a big way on Friday at the University Athletic Association Championships.  The Eagles opened the day with a 14-1 triumph in five innings over NYU before registering a six-inning, 13-3 decision over Case Western Reserve.  Emory stands 15-2 overall, 5-2 in the league.

Emory 14, NYU 1 (5 inn.) -- The Eagles post a 14-hit attack with freshman Gracie Taber highlighting the effort by going 4-for-4 at the plate with 6 RBIs ... Emory jumps on the Violets with a seven-run first inning, keyed by a two-run single by senior Brianna Berceau and capped off by a Taber grand slam ... Taber adds a two-run double in the fifth ... Freshman pitcher Audrey Weller goes the first three innings in notching her first collegiate win, blanking the Violets while allowing three hits and striking out two. 

Emory 13, Case Western Reserve 3 (6 inn.) -- Junior Hannah Sendel ties an Emory school record with three home runs and knocks in five runs ... Sophomore Tara Fallahee collects three hits in five trips to the plate and crosses the plate three times ... Sendel's first round tripper of the game comes in the top of the third and gives Emory a 2-0 edge ... Fallahee follows with a solo shot ... After the Spartans cut their deficit in the bottom of the frame, Emory plays long ball in the top of the fourth with a solo homer by Sendel and three-run blast by Taber giving the Eagles a six-run bulge ... Sendel's last homer of the day is a two-run blast in the top of the sixth ... Junior pitcher Sydney Carpenter gets the start and tosses four innings, allowing two runs and fanning two ... Junior Alyssa Pollard singles in of her plate appearances, raising her hitting streak to 16 games ... Sendel has 30 career homers, second on the school's all-time chart.
