From Emory University Athletics

The No. 4-ranked Emory softball team closed out a perfect week at the University Athletic Association Championships on Sunday morning, defeating Brandeis University in its final contest of the event. The Eagles won their 12th straight game and raised their overall record to 21-1 following a 13-5 win over the Judges.

Emory pounded out a season-high 19 hits against three Brandeis pitchers and recorded its eighth game of 10 or more runs this year.  Junior left fielder Taylor Forte went 3-for-5 at the plate and scored three runs while senior catcher Melody Carter and freshman third baseman Lana Herrmann each collected three hits. The Eagles socked three homers in the game with Carter and freshman shortstop Cassie Baca delivering a solo blasts, and senior center fielder Alyssa Pollard coming through with a two-run shot.

Sophomore pitcher Audrey Weller was credited with the win, her sixth in as many decisions, tossing four scoreless innings of relief that saw her give up just two hits and striking out two.

Emory's 10-0 record at the UAAs marks the fifth time in its 18 years that it went through the league championships with an unblemished record.  The Eagles finished with a hitting mark of .318 compared to the opposition's .195 and blasted a total of 20 home runs.  Sophomore Janelle Turnquest turned in a team-high batting average of .464, second highest among all UAA players, collecting a team-high tying 13 hits in 28 plate appearances.  Turnquest finished as the Championships leader in runs scored (11), RBIs (17) and homers (6).  Sophomore Ashley Powers (.423, 11-for-26), Baca (.419, 13-for-31) and Carter (.400, 12-for-30) all hit over .400, with Carter ranking second on the team and among UAA leaders with four homers and 14 RBIs.
