Maroons Pulls in 10th NCAA Postseason Selection

For the 10th time in program history, the University of Chicago softball team was selected to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship field on Monday.

The Maroons were an at-large pick among the 62 softball teams that will participate in the postseason. All 10 of UChicago's postseason berths have occurred since 2000, with the latest coming in 2014. The team has accrued 11 victories in that time.

The four-team regional is scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 12-14 with Trine University serving as the host school. The format will be double elimination, with the regional champion moving on to super regionals the following week.

UChicago's opening opponent will be Wheaton College (31-12) on Thursday, while the other matchup will feature Trine (30-12) versus Greenville College (23-21-1). The Maroons previously played at Wheaton on April 29 and came away with a pair of 1-0 victories over the Thunder.

UChicago finished the regular season with a 25-8 record. The offense tallied a .317 team batting average while the pitching staff limited opponents to a .216 batting average. The Maroon pitchers compiled 10 shutouts, a 2.46 ERA and 191 strikeouts in 216.1 innings.
