Washington University Splits on Final Day of Diamond 9 Sunkissed Games

The Washington University in St. Louis softball team closed out play at the 2018 Diamond 9 Sunkissed Games with a split on Tuesday in Kissimmee, Fla.

Senior Hera Tang delivered a two-run double in the fifth to lead the Bears past Plattsburgh 4-3 in game one, and the Bears were no-hit in a 5-2 loss to Ramapo in game two.

Senior Anna McKee (3-1) tossed a complete game in game one allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned). McKee struck out four and walked two.

The Bears scored an unearned run in the first, and then Plattsburgh scored two runs in the second and one in the third to take a 3-1 advantage.

WashU added a run in the bottom of third after sophomore Amy Walsh scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Natasha Ramakrishnan.

In the fifth, senior Ashley Madsen singled to third base and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a walk by freshman Julia Flores, Tang doubled to center to drive in two runs for the eventual game-winning hit.

Walsh went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as WashU had six hits.

#12 Ramapo 5, WashU 2
Ramapo's Erin Fitzsimmons and Christina Brizek combined to throw a no-hitter in game two. The duo issued two walks and hit four batters. 

Ramapo (4-1) jumped in front with a run in the first off freshman Abby Graegin, who was making the second start of her career. The Bears scored two runs in the fourth, despite not recording a hit. Freshman catcher Julia Flores had an RBI groundout in the inning.

The Roadrunners scored four runs on three hits in the fourth to jump in front 5-2.

Graegin (0-2) took the loss allowing five hits and five runs in 3 2/3 innings pitched. Senior Maggie Clapp came in relief allowing just one hit in 2 1/3 innings pitched. WashU committed three errors in the loss.
