Nancy Fahey Promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics

From Washington University Athletics

Washington University in St. Louis Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced Friday that Nancy Fahey has been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics while continuing to serve as the head coach of the women's basketball program.

"We are so pleased to promote Nancy to Assistant Director of Athletics. This decision recognizes her many years of sound counsel to the department's leadership and positions her for an even greater role moving forward," said Whitman. "During this past year, which was a time marked by significant change and transition, her voice became particularly important. Nancy brings tremendous experience, energy, and expertise to our department's Senior Leadership Team. We are grateful to her for her efforts and look forward to working collaboratively with her to build an even bolder vision for the future of Bears Athletics."

Fahey currently serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, which meets regularly to discuss all matters pertaining to the department's operation. She is also actively involved in staff recruitment, development of policies and procedures, and strategic planning.

During this past year, Fahey led planning efforts for the Freshmen Parent Reception and the Student-Athlete Banquet. She will continue to work on a number of special projects and initiatives, including staff development, and an increased role in the Sports Hall of Fame and the W Club Golf Scramble.

"I am excited about the opportunity to expand my role in our athletic department," said Fahey. "Anything I can do to help create a first class experience for our student-athletes is something I take very seriously. I value the rich tradition of our sports programs and the bright future that lies ahead."

Fahey, who enters her 30th season on the sidelines for the nationally ranked women's basketball team, has led WashU to a 688-124 (.847) overall record and an NCAA Division III record five national championships. She has also guided the Bears to 10 Final Four appearances and 21 University Athletic Association (UAA) titles.

Previously, Fahey has served in a variety of administrative capacities in the department, including, until earlier this year, serving as the Senior Woman Administrator and, most recently, as the Senior Assistant to the Director of Athletics.
