Lisa Murphy and Jackie Hudepohl of Carnegie Mellon Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

Carnegie Mellon University juniors Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook/Colgate) and Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America 2015-16 Women's Basketball Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Murphy earned first-team honors while Hudepohl was named to the second team.

In February, the pair were two of five named to the District 4 All-District team, giving way to their national eligibility. Their honor on the All-America team marks the third and fourth times in program history a Tartan has made the list, while they are the only two from the University Athletic Association (UAA) to be honored this year.

Murphy is one of two juniors on the first team and holds a 3.78 GPA in psychology. She leads the nation with a 75.2% field-goal percentage and ranks second in scoring with 23.7 points per game. The center has posted 13 double-doubles for the season and averages 11.2 rebounds a game. Murphy has scored 592 points this year to break her own school record of 505 set last year. She has amassed 1,560 career points and is 36 points shy of becoming the program's all-time leading scorer.

When not playing basketball, Murphy spends her time as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and secretary of Psi Chi, the International Psychology Honor Society. She has interned with the Children's School at Carnegie Mellon, spent time as a summer camp aide at Life Changing Fitness Kids in Falls Church, Virginia, and volunteered for Special Olympics and Best Buddies.

Hudepohl is one of three honorees to carry a 4.0 GPA and majors in mathematics with a concentration in statistics. She is also minoring in both computer science and computational finance. In her first full season with the Tartans after an injury sidelined her after five games last year, Hudepohl is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 15.2 points per game and 8.5 rebounds a game, ranking fifth and fourth respectively in the UAA. The junior is shooting 45.2% from the floor and dishing out 2.9 assists a game while blocking 1.2 shots per game.

Away from the court, Hudepohl spent last summer as a research assistant in computer science and engineering at Washington University in St. Louis while also participating in a workshop on applications of mathematics at Duke University. She has been a teaching assistant for three different classes in the mathematics and computer science departments at Carnegie Mellon and a peer tutor in academic development. The summer before attending Carnegie Mellon, Hudepohl was a math tutor and SAT instructor at The Tutoring Center of Mountain View in Mountain View, California. This coming summer the junior will serve as a trading intern at Susquehanna International Group.

The Tartans, who earned the team's third-ever NCAA Championship bid, closed the regular season with the third most wins in school history with a 19-6 record and finished third in the UAA with an 8-6 mark. Along the way, the Tartans had the best start in school history at 13-0 and entered the national rankings for the second time in school history.
