Tartans Come-From-Behind to Top Oberlin, 73-64

For the second straight game, the undefeated Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team trailed at halftime, only to come-from-behind to defeat Oberlin College, 73-64, on Saturday, December 5. The Tartans are now 6-0 on the year while the Yeowomen drop to 5-4.

The Tartans started 1-for-12 from the floor but after making their fourth basket, trailed just 9-8 with 3:20 to play in the first quarter. Junior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) gave the Tartans their first lead with a layup a minute later, as the teams were tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Oberlin made the first basket of the second quarter when Anna Moore made a layup. The Yeowomen built a nine-point lead and held a three-point lead at the half.

A layup by Murphy tied the game at 44-44 and the Tartans took their first lead since the first quarter when sophomore Zoe Zawisa (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) hit a jump shot to make it 50-49. The lead changed hands twice more before the Tartans led by five heading into the fourth quarter, 58-53, following a jumper by senior Lindsay Poss (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) on the last play of the period.

The Tartans held the Yeowomen to 11 points in the fourth quarter and used a 13-3 run after the visitors tied it at 58-58 to build a 10-point lead with 40 seconds to play in the game. During the run, Poss and junior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook (Colgate)) hit three pointers.

Murphy finished as the game's high scorer with 28 points, finishing 13-of-17 after missing her first three attempts. She also grabbed a game high 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Her 12 boards helped the Tartans hold a 42-39 edge on the glass. Senior Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) tallied 15 points while Hudepohl finished with 13 and Poss with 10.
