Lisa Murphy of Carnegie Mellon Collects Two National Weekly Awards and Third UAA Honor

Junior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team was named the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Women's Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday, December 8. She also earned her second D3hoops.com Team of the Week honor, third University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week, and first Corvias ECAC Player of the Week award after leading the Tartans to two more wins last week. Murphy is the first USBWA Player of the Week this season. This is the second season that the USBWA is selecting a Division III Player of the Week. 

Murphy set an NCAA record and tied an NCAA record in a 2-0 week for Carnegie Mellon. On Monday, in an 81-73 victory against La Roche, Murphy shot 16-for-16 from the field to set the NCAA record for most consecutive shots made in a game. With that, she tied the NCAA record for most consecutive shots made for a season with 18, dating back to the Tartans' win against Waynesburg on Nov. 24. She scored a career-high 37 points which was the most by a Division III women's player to date.

On Saturday, Murphy missed her first three shots but finished 13-for-17 for 28 points as the Tartans came-from-behind for the second straight contest and beat Oberlin, 73-64. Murphy shot 87.9% and averaged 32.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for the week.

Murphy currently leads the nation in points per game with 29.4.
