From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's basketball team picked up a 71-48 road victory over SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday night, December 1, in New Paltz, NY.

"It was a good overall team effort both offensively and defensively," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "Everybody did what we needed them to do to be successful."

The Violets (6-0) entered the contest ranked #5 and #6 in the most recent D3hoops.com and USA Today Top 25 polls, respectively, and subsequently played to their national level. Kaitlyn Read led NYU during the win over the Hawks (4-2), pouring in a game-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting.

NYU scored the game's first basket and never relinquished its lead at any point. Three Violets scored in double figures, while the squad held New Paltz to 29.1 percent shooting. Additionally, not one Hawk player scored in double figures. NYU controlled the game throughout and outscored New Paltz 34-16 in the paint while capitalizing on Hawk miscues with a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

"I'm proud of how we handled their defensive pressure," continued Hall-Gregory. "We had good help defense and good rotations."
