The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team extended its win streak to four games with a 77-64 victory at Waynesburg University on Tuesday, November 22. The Tartans used a late second quarter run to fend off the Yellow Jackets and move to 4-0 on the season.

Senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) led the 18th-ranked Tartans with 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor with six free throws. The senior also led the Tartans in rebounding with eight boards, including six on the offensive end. Freshman Laurel Pereira (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) scored a career-best 15 points while making 5-of-7 from the floor including three shots from long range. Senior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook (Colgate)) also scored 15 points while she grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists, and blocked two shots.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game with a three-pointer and held their largest lead of the game at five points 2:24 into the game.  A three-pointer by freshman Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) tied the game for the first time less than a minute later before Pereira's first shot from behind the arc gave the Tartans their first lead with 4:13 to go in the quarter.

The scoring was back and forth with six lead changes and four more ties until the Tartans used an 11-point run to end the second quarter to take a 39-29 lead into the locker room.

After a Murphy layup started the second half, Waynesburg used a 9-2 run to pull within five points but it was the closest they'd come the remainder of the game as the Tartans answered with a 9-3 run to push the lead back to double digits and lead by 11 with 4:09 to go in the third quarter. A three-pointer by freshman Katharine Higgins (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) closed the run for the Tartans.

The lead grew to 16 for the Tartans following a jumper by Higgins with less than four minutes to play and sophomore Anna Novak (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) hit 3-of-4 from the foul line down the stretch for the Tartans who won their third game this season by double-digits.
