Defense Totals 22 Steals, 37 Points in Rochester Win Over Brockport

The University of Rochester produced 37 points off 27 Brockport turnovers in a 93-47 victory at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Tuesday evening. Seven players had multiple steals for Rochester, led by Brenna James who recorded five swipes. Shea McCartney, Lena Ethington, and Lauren Foley all had three steals.

Rochester had four double-figure scorers, led by Alexandra Leslie with 17. Lizzy Atkinson scored 13 points in 13 minutes, hitting five of six from the floor, three of four outside the arc. Lauren Deming scored 12 points and Mary Kronenwetter scored 10.

Faith Welch was Brockport's only double figure scorer. She had 15 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 outside the arc. Hannah Rehbaum scored eight points, and Schyler Johnson scored seven.

Rochester is ranked No. 11 by D3hoops.com and number 12 in the USA Today/ESPN poll for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The win boosted Rochester's record to 4-1. Brockport slipped to 0-4. The Golden Eagles lost their first three games this season by less than 10 points each time.

UR seized command in the first quarter with a 15-0 run with five players contributing. It gave the Yellowjackets an 18-2 lead with three minutes left in the period. Rochester led, 25-8 after one and 50-21 at halftime.

Brockport couldn't get its shooting untracked. The Golden Eagles made just two of 10 from the field in the first quarter and were 6-25 by halftime. Welch hit four of nine from the floor while Rehbaum made four of 10 field goal attempts.
