Boards & Transition Points Push Rochester To Win Over Oswego

The University of Rochester flexed its rebounding muscles, grabbing 25 offensive boards to produce 26 second chance points in a 62-43 women's basketball victory over SUNY Oswego on Tuesday night.

Rochester also scored 21 points off 14 Oswego turnovers and had a 34-22 advantage in points in the paint. The Yellowjackets are ranked number 7 by D3hoops.com and number 10 in the USA Today/ESPN poll for the WBCA. They improved to 3-1. Oswego, which dropped a pair of one-point decisions over the weekend in the Allegheny Tournament, is 0-4.

Al Leslie scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Rochester. Lauren Deming had 13 points, nine boards, and five steals in 20 minutes. Lena Ethington had seven rebounds and Shea McCartney had six.

Heather Hebert led Oswego with 16 points and eight rebounds. Quincey Zimmerman had eight points and six boards in 19 minutes off the bench.

UR's Mary Kronenwetter scored four of her eight points late in the first quarter to key an 8-0 run that put Rochester up, 17-10 after the period. Leslie opened the second quarter with four quick points and the lead was 11, 21-10. It reached 13 points twice, first on Leslie's jumper (27-14) and then on a jumper by Brenna James (29-16).

Nine players played 13 or more minutes for Rochester. A total of 14 players competed with 11 of them scoring at least two points. Jillian Silvestri.
