Jim Scheible Honored by University of Rochester Board of Trustees

From University of Rochester Athletics

University of Rochester President Richard Feldman made a special presentation to women's basketball coach Jim Scheible on Saturday afternoon in the season finale vs. Emory University.

He presented a framed resolution from the Board of Trustees that commemorates his 500thcareer coaching victory – achieved on January 21, 2018 against NYU in overtime in New York City.

Scheible earned his first college coaching victory in the Palestra in November, 1989 coaching Clarkson University. He is the 19th active Division III coach to reach 500 career victories.

The presentation was made at halftime of the Rochester-Emory game. This enabled the women's team to be in attendance and then to join the President, Coach Scheible and Executive Director of Athletics George VanderZwaag for a photo opportunity.

Later in the afternoon, the women took the court and defeated Emory, 66-52. It was Rochester's 21st victory of the year against four losses. The Yellowjackets are a strong candidate to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The tournament field will be announced on Monday at 2:30 pm on www.ncaa.com.

Women's basketball is completing its 48th season as a varsity sport at the University. The team has won 20 or more games in 15 of those seasons. Coach Scheible has been the head coach for 11 of those.
