NYU Moves Into Third at Jekyll Island

The New York University women's golf team, ranked #12 by GolfStat.com, is in third place out of 23 teams following the second of three rounds at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Oglethorpe University at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, GA, is taking place from Friday-Sunday, March 18-20.

NYU shot a team score of 301 in round two and, combined with its 310 round one, sits in third place at 611 overall. The Violets trail second-place #22 Whitman College by one stroke (610), while #7 Sewanee (599) is in first place.

"The women played really well today," said NYU Head Coach Todd Kolean. "Jenni was outstanding with just one bogie and Kristin had a great comeback round, as well. We're now set up for an exiting final round tomorrow."

Jenni Bluetlling shot a one-under 71 on Saturday to jump eight spots in the standings and is now in sole possession of third place out of 120 golfers at 146 overall (75-71). Fellow rookie Catherina Li also made significant strides in the individual standings. Li shot a 75 on Saturday, jumped 11 spots and is tied for 14th at 153 overall (78-75).

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Alyssa Poentis is tied for 19th at154 overall (74-80).

- Kristin Lee is tied for 36th at 159 overall. After shooting an 84 on Friday, the sophomore came back with a 75 on Saturday.

- Phoebe Zhao is tied for 57th at 167 (83-84).
