New York University's women's golf team placed second at the Williams College Invitational, which was held on Saturday and Sunday, October 10-11, at the Taconic Golf Course in Williamstown, MA.

The Violets finished in second place of 15 teams after shooting 320 during round one and 323 in round two for a final score of 643. The squad trailed competition-winner and host Williams College (617) by 26 strokes.

Sophomore Alyssa Poentis finished the competition tied for third place with an overall score of 156. Overall, 88 golfers competed.

"The course played tougher today, which was evident by the scores. Overall, I think we played well with several of the girls playing better than yesterday," said Assistant Coach Meaghan Kenny. "Alyssa was able to put together a pretty great weekend."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Kristin Lee shot 160 to place eighth of 88 golfers.

- Freshmen Catherina Li (165) and Jenni Bluetling (166) tied for 14th and 18th places, respectively.

- Sophomores Phoebe Zhao and Angela Yang shot 168 and 169, respectively, to place 22nd and tie for 23rd.

"Both Jenni and Angela were able to drop strokes today," added Kenny. "We're looking forward to our final tournament of the fall next weekend at a course that sets up better to our games."
