Bears Rebound to Finish Third at DePauw

The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team had all five starters finish in the top-20 as the Bears recorded a third place finish at the Dan Quayle Collegiate Golf Classic held Saturday-Sunday at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Ind.

After firing a 322 on day one, the Bears rebounded with a 314 on day two to finish third out of 12 teams.

Wittenberg University led from start to finish and posted a seven-shot victory with a 622 (310-312). Host DePauw University was second with a 629 (319-310), while WashU was third with a 636 (322-314).

"I am proud of the girls for bouncing back," said first-year head coach Ellen Port. "We still have room for improvement, and the team is ready to find ways to get better."

Junior Samantha Han was the top finisher for the Bears, recording a 12th place finish with a two-day score of 159 (81-78). Freshman Hanna Jia fired the low round on day two with a career-best 77 to finish 15th overall.

WashU returns to action on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 26-27, at the IWU Fall Classic in Normal, Ill.
