No. 13 Bears Finish Fifth at Washington Spring Invitational

The No. 13-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team rebounded from a disappointing opening round to shoot a 315 on day two and finish in fifth place at the Fifth Annual WUSTL Spring Invitational Sunday at Norman K. Probstein Golf Course in Forest Park.

WashU shot a two-day score of 666 (351-315), as the Bears recorded their seventh top-five finish of the season. In a tournament field that featured five top-15 ranked teams, No. 2-ranked Rhodes College led from start to finish and captured the team title with a two-day score of 613 (317-296).

No. 12 Carleton College (333-312, 645) and No. 4 Sewanee (336-309) tied for second with a 36-hole score of 645, while No. 15 St. Catherine University (334-331, 665) and WashU rounded out the top five in the 12-team field.

WashU sophomore Erin Drolet posted a two-day total of 165 (87-78) to finish in a tie for 14th place. Freshmen Hanna Jia (90-77) and Chloe DiPetrillo (87-80) and senior Connie Zhou (87-80) each fired a 167 and finished in a tie for 18th place.

Junior Jessica Wibawa rounded out the WashU lineup with a 44th place finish (92-85, 177).

Mackenzie Cohen of Rhodes edged teammate Meg Healy by one stroke to claim medalist honors after a 148 (77-71).

WashU will be back on the course Sunday-Monday, April 10-11, competing in the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: Zhou was tied for second in the field in Par 5 scoring (5.17) … Jia was second in birdies (four) and Drolet was second in pars (22) … WashU was third as a team in Par 5 scoring (5.70), fourth in Par 4 scoring (4.89) and fifth in Par 3 scoring (3.66).
