Junior Samantha Han claimed medalist honors to lead the No. 8-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team to a third-place finish at the 2015 Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic held Saturday-Sunday at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
WashU, who had a five-stroke lead over Indiana Tech University after the opening round, fired a two-day score of 619 (303-316) to finish third in the 11-team field.
No. 15-ranked DePauw University carded a two-day score of 608 (309-299) to claim the team title, while Indiana Tech was second with a 610 (308-302).
Han fired a career-best 72 on Saturday and a 77 on day two for a score of 149 to claim the first individual title of her career. She tied for the tournament low score with Courtney Dye of Indiana Tech (74-75, 149) and Rachele Miller of DePauw (77-72, 149).
Senior Connie Zhou (75-77, 152, fifth place) and freshman Chloe DiPetrillo (79-74, 153, eighth place) joined Han on the all-tournament team with a pair of top-10 finishes.
WashU closes out its fall season at the Golfweek Fall Preview Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 11-13, in Sandestin, Fla.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: Han tied for the tournament best on par 3's (even) … DiPetrillo recorded an eagle on the 445-yard par 5 seventh hole … WashU was second in the 11-team field in par 5 scoring (even).
