NYU Finishes Third at Wellesley Invitational

NYU Finishes Third at Wellesley Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team finished in third place at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational hosted by Wellesley College at the Nehoiden Golf Club in Wellesley, MA, on Saturday and Sunday, September 17-18.

The Violets compiled an overall score of 628 after shooting 312 on Sunday. Amherst College won the competition (616) with Williams College trailing behind in second (620).

"We played a lot better today. I was pleased," said NYU Head Coach Brad Johnson. "We hit better. We made some improvements, but not enough to overtake the top two teams. Amherst and Williams have very good teams."

The Violet trio of junior Kristin Lee and freshmen Ashley Tsoi and Patty Treevichaphan all claimed sixth place with an overall score of 156.

"As a coach, I am always looking for improvements where I can get them, so today was a good day," expressed Johnson. "Patty shot a 41 on the front and came back with a 36. That's pretty impressive. She struggled, but fought back hard. As a coach, I am really proud."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Alyssa Poentis tied for 15th shooting 79 on the day.

- Rounding out the NYU scorers was freshman Arisa Kimura in a tie for 23rd (165).

"This course is pretty tough," Johnson stated. "It is one of those courses you have to play more than one time. A lot of strange holes. The greens are very subtle and hard to read. I know Kristin has seen it a few times. I think if we have a chance to play there a few more times, we'll finish better."
