NYU Third After Day One of Williams Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team is in a tie for third place after round one of the Williams College Invitational, which was held on Saturday, October 1, at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA.

NYU shot 318 to tie Amherst College. The squad trails leaders Williams College (310) and Middlebury College (315) heading into Sunday's second and final round.

After missing much of September due to injury, veterans junior Alyssa Poentis and sophomore Jenni Bluetling tied for third by both shooting 76 in round one.

"Alyssa came back with a solid even-par back-nine to shoot 76 along with Jenni," said Assistant Coach Meaghan Kelly. "The other girls were grinding out there today and never gave up even after a bad hole. They made me very proud."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Ashley Tsoi and junior Kristin Lee found themselves in a 10-way tie for eighth, each shooting 79 on day one.

- Sophomore Patty Treevichaphan is in 29th with a score of 84.

- Arisa Kimura, a freshman, trailed one stroke behind (85) and is 31st.

"I'm hoping we're able to drop a few strokes tomorrow and make a run for the win," added Kenny.
