NYU Defends UAA Women's Golf Championship This Weekend

The 2017 UAA Women's Golf Championship will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Hammock Beach Golf Resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Hammock Beach is serving as the host course for the time.

Defending Association champion NYU, who overcame a five-shot deficit after the opening round to take the 2016 UAA title, is ranked 12th in the latest NCAA Division III Top-25 Golfstat Relative Rankings.

Junior Alyssa Poentis, who earned first team All-Association honors last year, captured the individual title at the NYU Invitational in the Violets' last competition of the fall portion of the season. Sophomore Jenni Bluetling earned all-tournament honors in last year's championship and was named 2016 UAA Women's Golf Player of the Year. 

2015 champion Washington University enters the UAA championship ranked 21st in the NCAA Division III Top-25 Golfstat Relative Rankings. The Bears, who won two tournaments in the fall, are led by rookie Samantha Haubenstock, who averaged 75.11 in her first semester of play. 

Sophomore Chloe DiPetrillo earned all-tournament and first team All-Association recognition in her rookie campaign, while junior Erin Drolet and sophomore Hanna Jia earned all-tournament honors.

Carnegie Mellon University returns two-time first team All-Association selection Summer Kitahara, who earned 2016 UAA Women's Golf Championship Most Valuable Player honors. Sophomore Carly Jordan was named 2016 UAA Women's Golf Rookie of the Year.
