NYU Ties for First at Fall Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team wrapped up its fall season in style, tying for first place at the NYU Fall Invitational, which was hosted by the Violets at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ, on Saturday and Sunday, October 14 and 15.

NYU, which is ranked #1 in the most recent Golfstat.com poll, tied #4 Williams College for first as each squad finished with a two-day score of 628.

The Ephs were awarded the first-place trophy based on having a better fifth-player score.

"Another solid day for us," said NYU Head Coach Brad Johnson. "While we lost the tiebreaker, I am still proud of our team for fighting back late to tie it."

The Violets' 'B" squad finished in fourth place, shooting a two-day score of 660. Carnegie Mellon University (645) and Mount Holyoke College (696) also finished in the top five.

"Having two teams finish in the top four shows how deep we are," added Johnson. "Certainly a good problem to have."

Leading the way for the Violets was Alyssa Poentis and Patty Treevichaphan, who each shot a two-day score of 156 (+12) to finish tied for third place among 51 players. Williams' Holly Davenport, who led after round one, was the individual champion, shooting 152 (+8).

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Arisa Kimura and Kristin Lee tied for sixth, each shooting 158 (+14).

- Jenni Bluetling and Ashley Lung finished in a tie for 12th with a 36-hole score of 161 (+17).

- Kimura finished the tournament with a tournament-high 23 pars.

The victory wrapped up a fall season which saw the Violets finish either first or second in all five of their events. The NYU Fall Invitational was the squad's third first-place finish this fall.

"We definitely have a lot to be proud of," concluded Johnson. "I'm excited to carry this momentum into the spring."
