NYU Starts Strongly at Jekyll Island

From NYU Athletics

Right on the heels of a victory in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, the New York University women's golf team is participating in the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational on Jekyll Island, GA. This tournament is taking place from Friday to Sunday, March 16-18.

The first round took place on Friday, and the defending champion Violets are currently tied for fourth place after shooting a 310 for the first round. They are one stroke behind Methodist University (309) and two strokes behind Whitman College (308). Claremont-Mud-Scripps is currently in first place with a score of 302.

Individually, Alyssa Poentis shot a 76 which has her tied for ninth place. Jessica Wu (77) and Jennifer Bluetling (78) also are among the top 20. Wu finished the first round in 14th place and Bluetling in 19th place.

Patty Treevichaphan (79) and Arisa Kimura (81) also competed for NYU. They are tied for 26th and 45th place out of 115 golfers, respectively.

"Even though Alyssa and Patty had solid scores," Head Coach Brad Johnson said, "they weren't playing as well as they can play, and I expect them to have strong days tomorrow. I am also proud of Jessia Wu's performance and excited at her potential."
