To-Ranked Violets Continue Strong Play at Jekyll Island

The New York University women's golf team continued its climb up the leader board on Saturday, rising to third place after round two of the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational. The competition is taking place from Friday-Sunday, March 16-18, on Jekyll Island, GA.

NYU, who sat fourth heading into Saturday's round, posted a team score of 306, which lifted them past Methodist University into third place with a two-day total of 616. The Violets, currently ranked #1 in the nation by Golfstat, trail only first-place Claremont Mudd Scripps (603) and second-place Whitman College (614).

Individually, Alyssa Poentis shot 77 on Saturday and now has a two-day total of 153, which has her tied for 13th place. Patty Treevichaphan (76) and Jenni Bluetling (77) both have two-day totals of 155 and are tied for 18th place, while Arisa Kimura (157, 81-76) and Jessica Wu (157, 77-80) are in a tie for 26th.

"Everybody is contributing to the team effort and we're in a good position heading into round three," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "They're competing against some of the top teams in the country, so every stroke counts."
