From Washington University Athletics

The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team is tied for fourth place among 23 teams competing at the Jekyll Island Invitational, including 17 programs ranked in the top-35 by Golfstat, after an opening round score of 310 Friday at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.

The Bears are tied for fourth with No. 1-ranked New York, as No. 4 Claremont Mudd Scripps leads the field with a 302 day one score. Also ahead of the Bears and Violets are No. 17 Whitman (308) and No. 12 Methodist (309).

Sophomore Samantha Haubenstock led the team with a two-over 74, while freshman Gigi Garcia (75) and senior Erin Drolet (78) also finished with first round scored in the 70s. Rounding out the Bears lineup were sophomores Emily Carnes (83) and Angelica Harris (89).

Haubenstock led WashU with five of their nine birdies. She finished two under-par on the back nine as Garcia led the Bears with a two-over on the front nine. Haubenstock and Garcia averaged four-strokes per par-4 to tie for the tournament lead with Whitman's Phoebe Nguyen.
