NYU Wins Twice on Saturday

The New York University wrestling team, ranked #22 in the nation by the NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) faced a pair of Centennial Conference opponents at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, on Saturday, February 6. 

In the first match, the NYU grapplers defeated McDaniel College 29-9. They then faced Washington and Lee University and posted a 45-3 victory.

Seven NYU wrestlers posted two victories over the two matches.

Nathan Pike at 133 pounds posted NYU's only fall of the day, pinning his oppoent from McDaniel in just 1:48. Raymond Jazikoff (157) posted a technical fall (20-4) over his McDaniel opponent, while Wayne Yuan (125), Nick Matthews (149), Manny Ramirez (165), John Messinger (174), Adrian Herrera (184), and Santino Pelusi (285) all won by decision.

The success continued in the second match against Washington and Lee, as NYU won nine of the 10 bouts.

"Our guys were on the offensive in both matches, constantly looking for points," said NYU Senior Assistant Coach Corey Luce."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Six of NYU's nine wins against Washington and Lee came via forfeit. 

- Yuan, Pike and Anthony Calvano won decisions against their Washington and Lee opponents.

"I was proud of the way we wrestled," Luce added. "We're moving in the right direction and at the right time."
