Spartans Split at 2017 Si Ostrach Meet

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team split its two matches at the 2017 Si Ostrach Meet on Saturday afternoon in the Veale Field House.

The Spartans lost a heart-breaker against Waynesburg University in the early match by a score of 22-22 (WU wins on Tiebreaker), but came back to defeat Muskingum University in the second match by a score of 28-14. CWRU moves to 2-3 on the season in dual matches.

In the early match against Waynesburg, the Spartans came away with four victories. At 149 pounds, freshman Michael Petersen won by technical fall (12-2) over Shaun Wilson, then 157-pounder Andrew Munn defeated Zack Meckall by technical fall (25-10).

CWRU picked up two more victories when junior 174-pounder Nick Tommas won a 5-4 decision over Derek Hall and sophomore 197-pounder Gavin Dersh-Fisher won a 4-0 decision over Adam Rigney.

Against Muskingum, the Spartans picked up two of their victories by pins and one by major decision. Freshman Alec Hoover pinned Slade Stiles (4:15) in the 133-pound weight class and sophomore Brian McNamara pinned Logan Thomas (1:10) in the 285-pound draw. Freshman 149-pounder Isaac Colliercontributed the 12-4 major decision victory over Toby Warrington.

The meet concluded with a "Throwdown" that involved CWRU, John Carroll University and Washington & Jefferson College. The Spartans tallied eight victories during the "Throwdown", including pins by Collier (4:39) and by Nick Tommas (4:00), as well as a major decision victory for Alec Hoover (12-2).
