Spartans Compete at 2018 Ohio Intercollegiate Open

Members of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team competed at the 2018 Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday in the Veale Field House on the CWRU campus.

With the majority of the field at the open consisting of NCAA Division I and II wrestlers, the Spartans had five of their wrestlers place within the top eight throughout the tournament.

Junior Jacob Frisch placed fourth in the White Division 133 weight class with a record of 2-2. He won a 10-7 decision over Michigan State's Joseph Eisho and then earned a 2-1 decision victory over Central Michigan's Robert Rogers.

Junior Alec Hoover finished fifth in the White Division 133 weight class with a record of 5-1. He earned major decision victories over West Liberty's Steven Slack (13-5), Ohio Wesleyan's James Brenneman (13-4) and CWRU freshman Duncan Clayton (9-0). Alec Hoover then finished out his day with a 7-4 decision over Garrett Kopp and a 2-0 decision over Michigan State's Stone Moscovic in the fifth-place match.

Senior Brian McNamara finished fourth in the White Division 285 weight class with a record of 2-2. He won by decision over Otterbein's Bradley Minnard and won a 5-0 decision over Ashland's Tyler Petrey.

Junior Isaac Collier placed fifth in the White Division 165 weight class with a record of 5-1. He earned a 9-2 decision over John Carroll's Luke McKeon, claimed a pin over West Liberty's Jacob Ramsey in 4:24, and then won an 8-0 major decision over JCU's Aidan Whitis. Collier closed out his day with decision victories over JCU's Seth Winkle (5-3) and Luke Reicosky (7-2).

Junior Andrew Hoover earned a seventh place tie in the 141 weight class after posting a 2-2 record. He earned a technical fall victory (16-0) over Ohio Wesleyan's William Kennedy and also picked up a major decision victory (14-3) over John Carroll's Jeff Brichford.
