CWRU Wraps Up Competition at RIT Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team was in action on Saturday in its second invitational-style meet of the year, competing at the RIT Invitational in Rochester, New York.

Junior Isaac Collier paced the Spartans, as he earned a fourth-place finish in the 165 pound weight class. Collier earned 16.0 points to the team total and gathered five victories on the day. He opened the invitational with two victories, but then dropped his quarterfinals match. Collier came back strong after that loss to tally three straight victories, including a major decision victory over Trinity's John Reilly (10-2) and a technical fall victory over Scranton's Kevin Merle (17-2).

Junior Alec Hoover contributed 14.0 points towards the team total and earned a tie for fifth place in the 133 pound weight class. He earned a fall to open the day, pinning Oswego's Wyatt Gorman in 2:42. After dropping his next match, he tallied four consecutive victories, including a major decision victory over Wesleyan's Kasim Khan (11-2), a pin against New England College's Ryan Pro (2:35) and a pin against Pitt.-Bradford's Colton Davis (2:24).

Junior Jacob Frisch added 11.0 points towards the Spartans score and finished tied for fifth in the 133 pound weight class. He picked up four wins on the day, including a technical fall victory over Keystone's Isaac Medina (15-0), a major decision victory over CWRU's Duncan Clayton (12-2) and a pin against New England College's Jordyn Rowe (4:00).

Freshman Grant Robinson contributed 15.0 points to the team total and earned a sixth-place finish in the 285 pound weight class. He started off the day with two falls, pinning Oswego's Nick Schmitt in 4:26 and then pinning Wesleyan's Krzys Nizielski in 1:03.  After dropping the next match, he earned two straight wins by fall as he pinned Oneonta's Jake Pine (1:05) and John Carroll's Luca Santillo (2:30).

Other top scorers on the day for CWRU included junior Jack Chimenti, freshman Duncan Clayton, freshman Patrick Hebreard and freshman Adam Kates. Chimenti earned 5.5 points in the 149 pound weight class after picking up two victories by fall. Clayton gathered 4.0 points in the 133 pound weight class, while Hebreard and Kates each picked up 4.0 points in the 125 pound weight class.

CWRU wrestlers totaled 58.5 points during the competition to finish 10th in the team standings at the meet.
