The New York University wrestling team continued its 2018-19 season on Saturday, November 10, competing at the Roger Williams University Invitational in Bristol, RI.

NYU accumulated 93.5 points and finished in fifth place at the 12-team event. Johnson & Wales University won the team title with 153.5 points, with host Roger Williams (132 points) and Messiah College (108 points) rounding out the top three.

Sean Lyons highlighted the day for NYU as the junior captain took home the 157-pound title, dominating his way through all five of his bouts. Lyons won one match by fall and two by major decision, including his 18-4 victory in the championship against Tyler Gazaway of Roger Williams. Gazaway entered the day ranked number seven in the nation at 157 pounds.

"Sean avenged a loss from last weekend and dominated in every position," said NYU Senior Assistant Coach Corey Luce.

Including Lyons, five different NYU grapplers made it to the finals of their weight class. Will Crisco (133 pounds), James Murdoch (165 pounds), Scott DuPont (174 pounds), and Jackson Kligerman (184 pounds) all finished as runner-up on Saturday.

Crisco and Kligerman also finished in second place at last weekend's season-opening tournament.

"Will and Jackson are both off to great starts this year," added Luce. "Will won by major decision in the semifinals over a two-time All-American and Jackson fell in the finals by only a few points to the number three wrestler in the country."

NYU is set to return to action on Sunday, November 18, when it travels to Ithaca, NY, to take part in the New York State Championships. The annual event will once again be hosted by Cornell University.

"Overall we made some improvements since last week," concluded Luce. "I'm confident we'll keep moving in the right direction."
