CWRU Places Third at 2023 UAA Championship

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team finished third at the 2023 University Athletic Association Championship, hosted by the University of Chicago at the Ratner Athletics Center in Chicago on Saturday.

The Spartans finished third in the conference with 36 points. Chicago was the conference champion with 141 points, and New York University was the runner-up with 138 points.

First-years Calvin Rowan and Thomas Wagner each picked up wins for CWRU at 149 pounds. Rowan went 2-2, placing third, and Wagner went 1-3 to place fifth. Rowan defeated Dan Hussein of NYU by decision 8-3 and Ken Sherman of NYU by decision 6-3. Wagner earned his 14th pin of the season, tying him for the team lead, by defeating Sherman by fall in 1:41.

Four additional Spartans placed third in their weight classes. Junior Ben Stites placed third in the 141-pound bracket, first-year E.J. Alizio placed third in the 125-pound bracket, first-year Marty Landes placed third in the 157-pound bracket, and senior Stephen Andryc placed third in the 197-pound bracket.
