First-year Art Martinez of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team competed in the 141 pound consolation bracket on the second day of the Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational in King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois, on Saturday.

Martinez lost by fall in 4:11 to Dakarai Clay of the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, who is ranked second in Upper Midwest Region and 12th in Division III at 141 pounds, in the fourth consolation round. Martinez claimed an early lead in the match, securing a takedown one minute into the first period, and led 2-1 going into the second period. However, Clay earned an escape to start the frame and won the match with a pin following a takedown.

Martinez finished the competition with a 2-2 record after going 2-1 on Friday with two pins. His two losses were to wrestlers ranked in the top 15 in Division III, Clay and 10th-ranked Jake Dado of the University of the Ozarks in the quarterfinal. This season, he leads the team with 28 wins and has a 28-10 record (.737). Of his eight losses to Division III foes, six have come against wrestlers ranked at least third in their regions.

The Spartans ended the invitational with 17.0 team points, placing 26th in the team standings out of 32 teams. North Central (Ill.) finished atop the team standings with 136.0 points.
