Senior midfielder Kate Doyle and senior forward Jessica Johnson were recognized as 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Division Scholar All-Americans to highlight six Washington University in St. Louis student-athletes who were honored for their dual accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.

Doyle was a first-team Scholar All-America honoree, while Johnson was named to the third team.

The duo also picked up first-team NSCAA Scholar all-North/Central Region honors, and were joined on the all-region team by senior forward Becky Berels (second), junior midfielder Kaylin Balley (honorable-mention), junior back Tessa Delaney (honorable-mention) and junior back Tessa Klumpp (honorable-mention).

"Washington University is a top notch university and we want our soccer scholar-champions to take advantage of all of the educational opportunities afforded to them, " said head coach Jim Conlon. "We are honored to have the six women recognized by the NSCAA and we are team effort in the classroom and on the field. The women in this program epitomize what and NCAA athlete should be. They compete hard on the field, they are dedicated to their craft and they are scholars in the classroom, at their internships, or during their study abroad opportunity."

Doyle, a 2013 first-team NSCAA/Continental Tire All-American, all-Central Region and all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, started all 22 games in the midfield and backfield for Washington U. with eight goals and three assists for 19 points. A three-time Academic All-UAA selection, Doyle has a 3.84 grade point average and will graduate in May with a degree in chemistry and a minor in public health.

Johnson, a first-team all-Central Region and all-UAA selection, started 19 of 21 games played and was fourth on the team with eight goals and nine assists for 25 points. A three-time Academic all-UAA honoree, Johnson has a 3.88 GPA and will graduate in May with a degree in anthropology, and African and African-American Studies.

Berels has a 3.66 GPA and will graduate in May with a degree in accounting, while Balley (3.89, anthropology and Spanish), Delaney (3.70, biology) and Klumpp (3.81, biochemistry and Spanish) all have one year of eligibility remaining.

Conlon, the NSCAA Division III Central Region Coach of the Year, guided Washington U. to a school record 20-1-1 overall mark in 2013. The Bears advanced to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals for the third-straight season and seventh time in school history. WUSTL also won its second-consecutive and ninth UAA Championship with a 7-0 record, and was ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top-25 Poll for the second time in school history.

To be named to a Scholar All-Region/All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) throughout her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; and be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member.
