Two Players Tally Twice to Lead Tartan Shutout to Open Season

The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team opened the 2014 regular season as they defeated Gustavus Adolphus College 8-0 on Friday evening, August 29 in the first game of the Gettysburg Cup.

Senior Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) and freshman Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) led the Tartans to victory scoring two goals each. Although, sophomore Megan Bartoshuk (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) struck early in the fourth minute to give the Tartans an early 1-0 lead. Stritter's first goal came in the seveth minute of play putting the Tartans ahead 2-0. The freshman struck again in the thirteenth minute to earn her second goal, after a score from Reid in the twelfth minute, to put the Tartans up 4-0.

Senior Jordyn Greenberg (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and sophomore Delaney Lam  (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Newbury Park) each added one goal in the first half of the game.

Reid scored her second goal in the 39th minute putting the Tartans up 7-0 to enter the half.

Junior Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak) scored the final goal of the game and the only score in the second half for the Tartans.
