NYU Wins ECAC Championship

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's golf team captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on Sunday, October 1, at the Ravenswood Country Club in Victor, NY. NYU played with an A team and a B team, with the A squad coming away with the 2017 title.

The Violets' A team never relinquished control of their spot on top of the leaderboard over the weekend. Shooting 297 (+9) on Sunday, the Violets compiled an overall score of 592 (+16) (tied for the program's third-lowest 36-hole tournament score) over the weekend en route to a second-consecutive ECAC Championship. Penn State–Behrend finished second with a combined score of 600. Elmira College rounded out the field with a combined score of 711 on the weekend.

Leading the Violets to victory were freshman Patrick McNary and sophomore Jensen Li. Both finished as co-champions by posting final scores of 146. Not far behind was sophomore Matt Shen, who took fifth place after authoring an overall score of 151.

The freshmen duo of Kelly Sun and Pratheek Velamuri both finished tied for seventh after recording scores of 152.

"This was the third-straight tournament where Patrick has played really well. I'm pleased with his level of consistency as a freshman," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "I was impressed with Jensen, too. He struggled last week and was able to come back and be a co-champion this week."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- As a member of the NYU B team, junior captain Qizhi Wong and freshman Stian Lintvedt each carded final scores of 159 to tie for 11th.

- NYU sophomore Justin Chan took 13th with the NYU B team after shooting 160 overall.

 - As a member of the B squad, senior Bryce Holmes went 161 overall, ending in 14th.

"Moving forward, I hope we can bring this type of consistency to every tournament," remarked Johnson.
