Yasla Ngoma Brace Rallies Judges Past Babson, 3-1

From Brandeis University Athletics

Brandeis University women's soccer senior forward Yasla Ngoma (North Plainfield, N.J./Oak Knoll) scored a pair of second-half goals today to lead the visiting Judges to a 3-1 victory over host Babson College in a non-conference contest on Hartwell-Rogers Field.
TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis: 2-0-1.
  • Babson: 0-2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Beavers struck first in the 15th minute, when Jordyn Ferranto knocked home a cross from Morgan Krauss.
  • Brandeis equalized in the 27th minute. Babson rookie goalie Callahan Cottone came well off her line to challenge for a ball. Judge rookie forward Lacey Mbugua (Brockton, Mass./Worcester Academy) beat her to the ball. She took one shot that Cottone stopped but couldn't control, and Mbugua fought past the home team defense and shot into the open net for her first collegiate goal.
  • Babson had a 6-4 shooting edge in the first half, but Brandeis turned it around in the second with a 5-2 advantage.
  • Ngoma scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 48th minute, collecting a ball at the top of the 18-yard box and firing into the left netting before Cottone had a chance to react.
  • Ngoma tallied a key insurance goal in the 77th minute with another long shot from the 18-yard line, with Mbugua picking up the assist.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The goals were Ngoma's first two of the season and the 10th and 11th of her career.
  • Her previous two-goal game came on Sept. 4, 2021, against Lasell University.
  • Judge junior Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School) made five saves to improve to 1-0-1 this season. Cottone had four stops in the losing effort.
  • This was the 48th meeting between the two teams, the most in Brandeis history. The Judges avenged a 4-3 loss from last season.
