NYU Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Vassar College

New York University's women's swimming & diving team defeated host Vassar College by a margin of 193-101 on Saturday, January 25, in Poughkeepsie, NY. With this victory, the Violets finish with a dual meet record of 6-2.
 
Freshman diver Ashlie Pankonin won the one-meter (281.02) and the three-meter (223.20) competitions. Throughout her first season at NYU, Pankonin has been named ECAC Division III-Metro Diver of the Week and University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week.

HIGHLIGHTS:
 
- Freshman diver Nia Sorgente placed second in the one-meter (236.24) and the three-meter (212.32) competitions.

"It was another great day for NYU diving," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "We now have four divers qualified for the NCAA regional meet. I am extremely proud."

- Freshman swimmers dominated today's events. Brenna Dorgan won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:02.64), Kayleigh Toth won the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.23), Lindsey Giostra won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.72) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.14), and Michelle Kierencew won the 100-yard freestyle (55.98).
 
- Sophomore Krista Traub took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.65.

- Junior Silke Herold was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.77.
 
"Our freshmen had some great performances today," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We are in a good place heading to the UAA Championships."
