Tartans Win Dual Meet Against Clarion

The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted its first meet of the year on Saturday, November 1. The Tartans defeated to Clarion University 158.50-141.50 behind seven first-place finishes.

Sophomore Kimberly Klausing (North Potomac, Md./Thomas Wootton) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:00.62 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:20.27, recording season-best times in both events. Freshman Miranda Ford (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.61 and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:29.39.

The 100-yard breaststroke was won by Tartan freshman Kimberly Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) in 1:09.05 as freshman Mary St John (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) won the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best 2:14.53.

Freshman Tiana Marrese (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) recorded two season-best times at the meet, finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.17 and then second in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.93.

Despite finishing second in the 200-yard backstroke, freshman Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) recorded a season-best time of 2:11.68. She later finished second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:14.25.

Freshman Anna Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon) added a first-place finish for the Tartans in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.93.

The Tartans finished second in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay with times of 1:52.18 and 1:41.94, respectively.

Sophomore Machika Kaku (Irvine, Calif./University) placed fourth on the 1-meter diving board with 204.90 points and third on the 3-meter diving board with 237.30 points.
