Emily Doerner of NYU Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

From NYU Athletics

Emily Doerner of the New York University women's swimming & diving team has been named to the Women's Division III College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America First Team At-Large. The honor, which was announced on Tuesday, June 9, follows her having already been named First Team Academic All-District 3 last month.

This is the second consecutive season in which Doerner has earned Academic All-America honors. The senior captain and nine-time NCAA All-American picked up CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team At-Large honors as a junior in 2013-14.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.

This honor is just the latest in a long list of accolades in the classroom for the recently-graduated Doerner. In addition to being named a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, the St. Louis, MO, native was a 2015 NYU Student Athlete Academic Achievement Award recipient, NYU's 2013-14 Female Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year, a two-time College Swimming Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honoree, a six-time NYU Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Committee (IAAC) Honor Roll selection, and a three-time University Athletic Association (UAA) Winter Sport All-Academic honoree.

The nine-time NCAA Division III All-American picked up six of those honors at the 2015 NCAA Championships (three All-America and three Honorable Mention All-America honors). Her best results were an individual third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and a second-place finish as a member of NYU's 200-yard medley relay team. For her efforts this past season Doerner was selected as NYU's Senior Athlete of the Year.

Lastly, Doerner closed out her NYU career in possession of seven program records and two Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) pool records.
