From University of Rochester Athletics
After a strong day three at the UAA Swimming and Diving
Championships, the University of Rochester women's team sits in
sixth place after earning two more school records and earning two
NCAA B cuts Friday.
UR sophomore Alex Veech had the result of the day, touching
the wall in 3rd place in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 1:04.61,
setting a new school record and provisionally qualifying for
NCAA's. Her time was fast enough that it beat the invited
time of nationals last season.
The other school record came in the last event of the day,
the 800 freestyle relay. The squad of Khamai Simpson, Emily
Simon, Lauren Bailey and Avery Palardy posted a time of 7:47.23,
breaking the old mark by nearly 2.5 seconds. That time was
good enough to finish in 4th place.
Rochester's 2nd NCAA B cut came from Bailey in the 100
butterfly. She finished in 9th place overall, swimming in
56.96 seconds. Simpson, also swimming in the B final raced to
12th place after she posted a 57.62 second time.
The only other A final that UR swam in on Friday was the 200
medley relay in which the Yellowjackets placed 6th with a time of
1:46.89. Julia Herman, Veech, Bailey and Vicky Luan made up
the UR team for that race.
Freshman Annie Thayer placed 12th in the 400 IM, earning a
time of 4:37.50, besting her prelim time by over four
seconds.
In the 100 backstroke, Herman finished in 19th, touching in
1:00.57 while teammate Jillian Johannes was 21st in 1:02.35.
Palardy placed 23rd in the 200 freestyle after her time of
1:56.93. Joining Veech in the finals of the 100 breast were
Kelsey Lisbon (22nd) and Anna Kopp (23rd).
