From Emory University Athletics

The Emory University men’s and women’s swimming & diving program saw three individual swimmers and two relay teams earn event championships on the second day of competition at the 29^th Annual UAA Championships. In total, the Eagles earned a combined 13 All-UAA certificates on Thursday.

After two days, the Emory women are off to a fast start with 665.5 points and sit in first place by over 200 points. Chicago is in second with 443 points followed by Washington (428), NYU (399.5), Carnegie Mellon (259), Rochester (212), Case Western Reserve (203), Brandeis (132).

On the men’s side, Emory also finds itself in first place with 500 points with Washington not close behind with 475.5. Chicago is in third with 392 points followed by NYU (365.5), Case Western Reserve (271), Carnegie Mellon (267), Rochester (256) and Brandeis (148).

The women took home four event championships on Thursday night at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, NY. The 200 Freestyle Relay comprised of freshman Fiona Muir, freshman Meg Taylor, junior Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe and junior Claire Liu took gold in the event to begin the evening, winning with a time of 1:33.19. Sophomore Rebecca Upton was crowned as the 500 Freestyle champion, touching at 4:50.80 and Muir later added a win in the 50 Freestyle, swimming a time of 23.29. The 400 Medley Relay quartet of senior Ellie Thompson, senior, Elizabeth Aronoff with Muir and Taylor closed out the night finishing first in the event at 3:45.73.

In addition to the event champions, Emory added an additional four All-UAA honorees. Freshman Ava Salmi in the 500 Free (3^rd, 4:57.52), freshman Ashley Daniels in the 200 IM (2^nd, 2:05.13) and both Taylor (2^nd, 23.65) and Liu (3^rd, 23.81) in the 50 Free as Emory took all three top spots in that event.

For the men, sophomore Chandler Lichtefeld claimed the lone event championship for the Eagles on Thursday as he touched first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.42.

The Emory men earned four more All-UAA honors on the day in addition to Lichtefeld. The 200 Free Relay team of freshman Trey Kolleck, sophomore Aaron Schwartz, freshman Alex Kohlman and sophomore Alexander Hardwick finished second in the event at 1:21.90. Junior Christian Baker (2^nd, 4:30.49) and freshman Thomas Gordon(3^rd, 4:30.74) in the 500 Freestyle and the 400 Medley Relay team of junior Mitchell Cooper, sophomore Cooper Tollen, Baker and sophomore Alexander Hardwick who finished second in the event, touching at 3:18.69.
