From University of Chicago Athletics
The University of Chicago swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day with its final home dual meet of the season against University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon.
Before the start of competition, the Maroons honored their 14 seniors. The decorated class includes Kent Bischoff, Andrew Homere, Thomas Meek, Gabriel Nathan, James Taylor, Matthew Veldman, Brian Weisbecker, Brian Yan, Karen Chu, Jenna Harris, Ciara Hu, Jen Law, Joyce Lu and Gabrielle Wimer. Over the past three seasons, UChicago's men's and women's teams have both finished 28th or higher at the NCAA Division III Championships, including matching 10th-place showings in 2014.
For the women, the Maroons grabbed six first-place finishes – four individual events and two relays. Junior Maya Scheidl took three of the four events she swam in by pacing the field in the 100-yard freestyle and as part of the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Daria Wickwas part of both relay victories as well and added an individual win in the 100-yard butterfly. Freshman Christina Cheng won the 100-yard breaststroke by a mere 0.04 seconds and swam the second leg on the 200-yard medley relay.
